Can I visit someone in a hospital?

Last Updated: 02/09/2023

Individual hospitals will set visiting hours and visitation duration.

Check with a specific facility for their visiting hours and safety policies.

If visitation is restricted, support persons will be allowed in the following circumstances:

  • Pediatric patients may have both parents or guardians
  • Patients undergoing a same-day surgery or procedure may be accompanied to the facility by a companion and that companion may remain with the patient through the initial intake process and rejoin the patient at discharge
  • Support persons may be present during procedures or in the recovery room for pediatrics, childbirth, and patients with an intellectual, developmental, physical, or other cognitive disability requiring support.

New Jersey has announced that all workers in health care facilities and high-risk congregate settings will be required to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, including having received a booster dose and will no longer be permitted to submit to testing as an alternative to vaccination, except for the purposes of providing an accommodation for individuals exempt from vaccination.
