Can real estate agents continue to show properties in person? Can my landlord show my apartment to potential renters?
In an effort to strengthen the existing social distancing measures in place, Governor Murphy has issued Executive Order No. 107, directing all residents to stay at home until further notice.
The order provides for certain exceptions, such as obtaining essential goods or services, seeking medical attention, visiting family or close friends, reporting to work, or engaging in outdoor activities. Unless otherwise noted, New Jerseyans should stay at home.
Real estate agents are allowed to operate and show houses to prospective buyers on a 1-on-1 basis, or to immediate families, but the current prohibition on open houses continues.
Renters seeking new housing or whose lease may be expiring should discuss with their landlords or realtors the best way to adhere to Executive Order No. 107 and maintain proper social distancing practices.
To report landlords in violation of these protocols, residents can contact the New Jersey Bureau of Housing Inspectionat (609) 633-6241. To report a possible violation of Executive Order No. 107, residents can use this online form.
