Should I fill out my Census form? Why does it matter?

Last Updated: 08/10/2020

Yes. You can fill out your census form online here.

The deadline to complete your census form is now September 30.

The Census is more than just a population count. It's the data that the federal government and the state government rely upon to make decisions that impact our communities.

New Jersey was undercounted in 2010, and because of that, we have left -- over the course of the past decade, and even today -- untold billions of dollars in federal aid on the table.

Results from the 2020 Census will also be used to determine the number of seats each state has in Congress and your political representation at all levels of government.

It's especially important for immigrant communities, who have historically been undercounted, to fill out their census forms. By law, your census responses cannot be used against you by any government agency or court in any way— not by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and not by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The law requires the Census Bureau to keep your information confidential and use your responses only to produce statistics.

Please take a moment, go online to my2020census.gov and make sure you are counted in the Census. It's quick and easy. The 2020 Census questionnaire will take about 10 minutes to complete. It's safe, secure, and confidential. Your information and privacy are protected.
