Who should be donating blood now in response to the current blood shortage? What factors should be considered, like blood type and risk?
The Red Cross is currently facing shortages of all blood types and products due to COVID-19-related cancellations of blood drives. As of March 19th, individuals are asked to refrain from donating for 28 days after any of the following conditions: travel to China, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, Italy or South Korea; diagnosis of COVID-19; contact with someone who is confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19.
